I have been playing around with Home Assistant for the last week. While I like it you really need to spend time setting it up and monitoring it. I am sure once it is setup up the way you like it it will be easier to maintain. I am running it on a Raspberry Pi 3 Model B it is say to setup but then the config is where you spend the time.
I have a couple Sonoff Basic devices and flash them with a custom firmware, Tasmota that will work with Home Assistant and removes the firmware it comes with.
